It would be easy, you know.
To wake up tomorrow and fall into the same old routine; that immediate, desperate scroll through social media before you’ve even gotten out of bed. Perhaps you’d bury yourself in the news of the day or the latest empty, glittery celeb gossip. A few negative thoughts and a crappy breakfast later and you’re off to what’s sure to be a bad day. Just watch those dominos fall!
But what if you didn’t? What if instead of falling into the same mechanical routine, you followed a blueprint to jump start your day and to give you that much needed shove in the right direction?
At The Abs Company, we choose to live and thrive by 5 Key Principles Of Success. Do they apply to our professional lives? Absolutely. And our personal lives? You betcha. We’ve found by applying these five principles to not only what we do, but to how we do it, the positivity and the passion bleeds from work to home and back again.
Do you want in?
Principle 1: Lead With Gratitude
It’s no secret that waking up early can be rough (why is it that Apple can’t seem to make a soothing alarm chime already?). But if you talk to Abs Company VP of Sales Mike Ritter, the window of time immediately after the alarm clock goes off is one of the absolute best of his day. “When I wake up I try to just be really thankful for my blessings; for my family, for my wife for my children, for my job, and for having the opportunity to work with fantastic people.”
It’s not easy of course. How do you stay grateful in a world so geared towards negativity?
“I don't touch my phone for about the first 30 minutes when I'm up. I really don't anymore.”
Instead, fill the first part of your day with the things that bring you joy. It’s impossible to be angry or jealous or uninspired when you start your day by focusing on something that makes you happy and, more importantly, grateful.
Principle 2: Live With Purpose
Abs Company CEO Sean Gagnon is all about the “Why?” Talk to Sean for any amount of time and you’ll see that he’s not just a man with a purpose, but that he lives for that purpose.
“We talk about that here at the company a lot. You know, it's kinda your purpose or your North Star that guides all of your actions, right? All of your actions have to drive towards your purpose. At The Abs Company, our purpose is ‘We Change Lives From The Core’. That's kind of our checkpoint. Is what we’re doing helping us to change lives from the core? Because if it is, that's an action we should be doing more of. And if we're doing more of those things in leading to our purpose, it's going to naturally bring more success.”
It’s an absolute guarantee that you WILL NOT find any measure of success that’s not walking hand in hand with a strong “Why?”
So ask yourself; what’s my purpose? And is it a big enough factor in my day to day?
Principle 3: Do EVERYTHING With Energy and Enthusiasm
This, of course, is harder than it sounds. Sometimes, the day-to-day grind can wear on you. But it’s absolutely essential that the effort is there in ALL that you do. Why, you may ask? Because a rising tide raises all boats. “It's infectious, right?” Gagnon says. “When you get in the room and you bring that energy, people are naturally uplifted.”
And it doesn’t only apply to your professional life. Bring the energy and the passion for your “Why?” to all facets of life—work, home, hobbies, exercise—and success will follow.
Principle 4: Have Faith In Something Bigger Than Yourself
Maybe you go to church…maybe you don’t. Believe it or not, this principle might not have anything to do with your spiritual faith. And we’ll let you in on a secret: more often than not your “Why?” and the thing that you have faith in might be the very same thing!
Mike Ritter, for one, has faith in The Abs Company products and the fact that he NEEDS to share them with the world. “If they don't have our products in their facility, in their gym and their club and their high school or college, we're not helping them at the end of the day. Yeah, I got hung up on today. I made 50, 60 calls. I didn't sell anything. But you know what? I have solutions. I have the product. Tomorrow is going to be better, man. Just keep driving and keep going after it.”
Keep the faith and you CANNOT fail. Keep the faith and success will follow.
Principle 5: Always Give Back
Paul McCartney sang, “And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.” At the risk of getting too ‘lovey-dovey’, the Beatle had a point. At the end of the day you’re only going to get back whatever you put out.
As CEO at The Abs Company, Sean Gagnon feels very strongly about this. “A lot of people think, ‘Oh, I don't have money to give back so I don't give back’. It has nothing to do with money. It's your time. It's a gift that you have in terms of a skill that you can share. And giving and gratitude will take you further in life than probably anything.”
So there you have it: 5 key principles that have helped us to cultivate success both at work and at home. We invite you to explore these principles—to let them follow you around throughout the day. Be grateful, have purpose, have energy, have faith, and give back and watch how your success blooms.
Or you can keep doing the same old thing.
It would be easy, you know.
