Does Weight Lifting Reduce Flexibility?
We’ve all heard the rumors that weightlifting counteracts the flexibility in one's body. It’s been said that when muscles get bigger and bulkier, that the body decreases in flexibility, and there is no way to be flexible with such big muscles. This is false, and in fact, strength training can even improve flexibility
A recent study showed that when compared to static stretching, weight lifting had the same effect on hamstring flexibility, and outperformed static stretching in improving hip flexibility. Keep in mind, strength training does this all while building strength and muscle as well!
When lifting weights, the structure of the muscles themselves are changing. Since muscles grow during strength training, there is now an additional amount of fiber in the muscles, and each of these fibers has the same amount of flexibility as the existing ones, allowing the muscle to stretch further than it was previously able to.
At The Abs Company, we offer a variety of products that allow users to lift weights and improve flexibility. Specifically, the X3S Bench provides weight lifters with a way to get a full body strength workout in, all while taking up very little space.
